The ANZ Job Advertisements Series research into the Australian employment market has shown a continued acceleration in Australian job advertisements over the past month.

This is further evidence of the mildness of the downturn Australia experienced over the past 18 months and is an indicator of a slow and steady recovery.

I hope that on this occasion, instead of pandering to the demands of trade unions seeking to justify their existence by keeping skilled migration numbers down, DIAC takes a courageous stand and reminds Australia why it elected the Rudd Government.

Sen Evans, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship should make a strategic decision to open up immigration pathways now, so that Australia will have the future skilled workforce it needs as one of the first western economies to recover from the global downturn.

The damage the Indian Government and Mr Gupta's comments have done to Indian people's perception of Australia is considerable and I respectfully suggest that in future both the Government spokesperson and Mr Gupta stop and think before making unsubstantiated claims of racially motivated violence...the time to make claims of racism is when it has been proven - and not a second sooner.

Net migration from Ireland is expected to reach 40,000 by the year ending April 2010, with employment close to 12%; and the UK is struggling to emerge from recession.

Australia's economy so strong it avoided the recession completely, it has plenty of jobs for skilled migrants, a booming resources and IT sector, an infrastructure package of billions of dollars creating jobs in the building trades; and an affordable high standard of living....

Australia is a country of equal opportunity, where women have the same rights as men. In Australia, it is illegal to discriminate against anyone because of their gender.

Ms Jackson and her committee seem to me to have based their argument on a somewhat shaky foundation. If one works in a low paid or casual job, one will obviously earn less than someone who works full-time in a highly paid job. I don’t see that as discrimination, or a gender assumption, just a pragmatic example of cause and effect

I'm often asked by prospective visa applicants whether they should use a migration agent to assist them with their Australian visa application.

My advice is that deciding whether to retain a migration agent is like deciding whether to use a tax agent to complete your tax return, or a lawyer to represent you in Court. Many people manage their own matters successfully; others are glad they obtained professional support.
