Australia – a Destination of Choice for Skilled Migrants

I posted in the META News yesterday that theThe Scotsman  newspaper has reported that the UK will be one of the last major economies in the world to emerge from recession.

Any recovery is likely to be very fragile and unpredictable; in fact the  UK is recovering so slowly that only Spain is now in a similar position.

The British economy shrank by 0.4 per cent in the third quarter of 2009 – its  sixth consecutive phase of decline; and the data reported in the Scotsman marked the worst recession since records began in 1955.

Today, the Irish times has reported that net outward migration from Ireland is forecast to reach 40,000 for the year ended April 2010; and unemployment will reach almost 12%.

Due to recent policy changes by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), Australia has lost something of its gloss as a destination for skilled migration.

But moving behind the political rhetoric, we have a country with an economy so strong it avoided the recession completely, plenty of jobs for skilled migrants, a booming resources and IT sector, an infrastructure package of billions of dollars (Building the Education Revolution) currently being implement by the government and creating jobs in the building trades; a high standard of living, which is also affordable.

All good reasons for potential migrants to consider Australia as their destination of choice.
